A Heap of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season

The winter break present a wealth of activities much better than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments surfaced over the festive period, and should you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
