Anthony Joshua Released from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Road Accident
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, officials in Lagos confirmed on late Wednesday. The athlete was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on December 29th, a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two of his team members.
Recovering from Minor Injuries
Joshua had been receiving medical attention while healing from his light wounds, his management team had said on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to “recuperate at home”.
“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
Honoring the Deceased
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. It was also noted that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the passing of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the sports world offered condolences for the champion in the aftermath of the terrible crash.
