The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect behind many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
