Eulogies Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt ready to share openly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the film, remarking that he could not remember "a single day without joy".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob valued immensely. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge agreed to block the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A court order placed a restriction on the investigation to limit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a official listing noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the tragedy, public individuals offered different reactions.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making provocative statements that were met with immediate backlash by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the critics last week. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan characterized the comments as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a concerning lack of empathy.
