New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
