More Than a Straightforward Remake: The Thorough Reimagining
This title constitutes a comprehensive re-envisioning of the seminal year 2000 RPG, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant departure from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this version adopts a unique three-dimensional visual presentation. The world appear to evoke detailed miniature worlds, with protagonists having a delightful toy-like appearance.
"Taking into account the 3DS port, the main quest was still quite long. So we came to a determination that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] make this adventure for modern gamers."
Significant Mechanical Changes & Updates
The creators have implemented several enhancements to update the classic experience. This encompasses:
- Streamlined Field Battles: Similar to modern role-playing games, weaker foes can now be dispatched directly on the exploration screen without entering a full turn-based battle sequence.
- Variable Battle Pace: Gamers can speed up battle sequences to quickly power through simpler encounters.
- New Job System: One completely new vocation was created for this reimagining. Additionally, characters now have the option to master a secondary job, significantly enhancing customization options.
These refinements are aimed at tackle a key the 2000 title's frequent points of feedback: its daunting playtime. The initial adventure could easily require more than 100 hours to complete. The new version was expressly structured to enhance flow and reduce any filler.
