The Actress Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump administration, fearing it could intensify unhelpful debate and deepen rifts within the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence whatsoever on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has admitted freely about backing conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and revealing she understood during the Obama era that voting Republican was opposing her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Earlier in her career, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “as I feel she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” said the actress about his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
Current Projects
Lawrence is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her emotional state in a remote area. At a press conference for the project in the film festival, the star commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
Lawrence added by stating that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor aimed to shift outrage about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, which was interpreted as a allusion to the then-recent pledge endorsed by numerous entertainment industry figures to avoid specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her role in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in her latest project. While Ramsay has denied the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress revealed that she identified with aspects of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, shortly after filming concluded.
“There was concern about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a drug called Zurzuvae and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
The actor also mentioned about the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the film while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
