Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Astros winning the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three victory in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that spot besides him with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
